IEC's Background in Web Education
Become a Sponsor As a non-profit, non-commercial organization, all IEC educational programs-including the Consortium's on-line offerings-are nonpromotional in nature. The Consortium's position in the industry is unique in that it is not supported by membership dues or aligned with specific technologies, standards-setting groups, or regulatory initiatives.

This neutral positioning enables the Consortium to include the full range of industry perspectives and technology orientations within its educational programs, making them truly comprehensive, authoritative, and reliable. As a result, industry professionals have relied upon the IEC as the dependable resource on the Web for mission-critical information.

The IEC's On-Line Education Program began in 1997. This widely acclaimed worldwide educational resource is a partnership among the IEC, an expanding number of industry organizations, and academia. The current IEC Web educational program is the result of a product-development process that has benefited from input from leading universities in the field of on-line learning, including the University of California at Berkeley, Stanford University, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the Illinois Institute of Technology, and Northwestern University. This involvement has resulted in an on-line educational program that is leading edge in terms of maximizing the learning experience and disseminating information effectively to an industry constituency worldwide.

With more and more professionals turning to the IEC's On-Line Education Program as a cost-effective means of continuing education, the site continues to remain the industry's leading resource for on-line learning.

Usage remains strong with more than 2.5 million visitor sessions annually to the more than 175 tutorials and on-line seminars currently available on the site.
